Programs for Summer 2010

Summer programs are available on campus for children at all age levels. Information is published in March regarding summer programs. Summer school will be offered in one-week sessions for Infant Community, Primary, and Elementary students who are currently enrolled in Post Oak. Most summer faculty are regular Post Oak faculty.

Summer at The Post Oak School is a time for students to experience a more relaxed environment while continuing to follow Montessori principles. Students enjoy fun activities such as splash days, outdoor adventures, swimming, games, theatre, artistic crafts, Spanish class, transition classes, cooking, etc. On July 2, they proudly participate in the grand Independence Day Parking Lot Parade. We hope you will join us for fun in the summer at Post Oak!

Summer school at Post Oak is divided into eight weekly sessions. Week 1 begins June 7, and Week 8 ends July 301. Spaces are limited and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. No partial sessions are available.

Infant Community (offered only to current Post Oak students)

Our summer Infant Community class will take place in a familiar, caring environment led by a Montessori-trained teacher. The routine of the day will be comfortable, encouraging growth and independence, with activities that may include gardening, water play, and outdoor fun. One class will be offered, and current full-day Post Oak students have priority.

Primary (offered only to current Post Oak students)

Summertime in the Primary Community is a blast! Friday splash days, outdoor adventures, crafts, games, music, and more combined with the continuation of work done exploring the Primary environment. Along with one regular Primary class, we will also offer one Primary Spanish-immersion class in June. Summertime at Post Oak Primary Infant Community In July, we will offer two regular Primary classes. The Spanish-immersion class will be offered on a firstcome first-served basis with a limited enrollment of 23 students, and students must enroll for all four weeks. All Primary classes will be led by a Montessori-trained teacher. Extended care during the summer session is only for children already enrolled in the extended-day program at the end of May.

Both half-day and full-day Primary is available. Half-day runs from 8:30 to 12:00; full-day sessions start as early as 7:00 am and end as late as 6:00 pm, with shorter times available.

Elementary Transition (offered only to current Post Oak students)

This class for students transitioning from Primary to Lower Elementary in the fall of 2010, will be offered for the first six weeks of summer. It is set up in a Lower Elementary classroom and is taught by our elementary faculty. This class provides an opportunity to strengthen skills, orient students to the new environment, and prepare them for when the full Lower Elementary age-range attends in the fall. It is strongly recommended for transitioning students. The day’s schedule is from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Enrollment is limited.

Elementary (offered only to current Post Oak students)

Exploration through the imagination is the theme for the Elementary summer program this year. Students will enjoy a wide variety of entertaining and instructional activities that may include art, drama, public speaking and poetry, creative writing, yoga, sports, swimming, cooking, and chess. Emphasis is also placed on learning about roles in a group, grace and courtesy, and rules of behavior. Division of ages and number of classes will be determined by enrollment. Plan ahead to ensure a space for your child! Instructors and a schedule of activities will be available later in the spring. Summer school runs the full day; classes starting as early as 7:00 am and ending as late as 6:00 pm are available.
