Celebrating Academic Success
Kevin McLean, Assistant Head of School
We’re thrilled to share the outstanding results of our Fall 2024 Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments, which demonstrate the academic excellence and hard work of our Post Oak School community. Not only did our students significantly outperform the national average, but they also achieved scores well above those of peer institutions across the independent school sector. These results reinforce that the depth and rigor of Post Oak’s curriculum equip students to excel academically, think critically, and problem-solve with confidence.
At Post Oak, MAP testing starts in third grade, as students at this age are building key foundational skills such as logical reasoning, sustained attention, and problem-solving. These emerging abilities, combined with their advancing executive functions, equip students to engage effectively with the test’s adaptive format, providing reliable and meaningful insights into their learning progress.
Elementary (Grades 3-6): MAP Math and Reading Results
Post Oak students in grades 3–6 demonstrated impressive achievement in both math and reading, consistently performing well above the national average (50th percentile) and outpacing their peers in independent, charter, and public schools.

- Reading: With a median score in the 85th percentile, our students displayed strong comprehension skills and a love for reading that aligns with our Montessori values.
Middle School Grades 7–8: MAP Math and Reading Results

- Math: Achieving a median score in the 74th percentile, students showed exceptional proficiency in tackling complex mathematical concepts, further demonstrating the strength of our curriculum.

Informing Teaching and Learning with MAP Insights
The data from the MAP test provides teachers with detailed insights into each student’s learning progress. It identifies the topics students have mastered and highlights areas where they are ready to grow. This personalized information allows teachers to tailor instruction to meet individual needs, ensuring that students are both supported in areas of difficulty and challenged to advance their learning.
And So Much More
At Post Oak, we are proud of the strong academic results our students achieve on the MAP tests, which reflect their hard work and understanding. However, a Montessori education goes beyond test scores, emphasizing independence, critical thinking, collaboration, and a love of learning. Through experiential learning, students engage in hands-on, real-world experiences that deepen their understanding, foster lifelong curiosity, and prepare them for purposeful lives.
Thank you for being a part of the Post Oak community, where we celebrate the joy of learning and the pursuit of excellence each day. We are excited to continue this journey of growth and achievement together!
