Books, Community Service, and Popsicles!

Last Saturday's Book Cycle event was a success! Our little army of Montessori volunteers stamped and sorted more than 1,000 books in one hour! In true Montessori style, they worked efficiently and kindly. Parents commented on instances of self-direction as well as older children helping younger children. And of course, they occasionally came across a book that just begged to be read right then and there.

While the self-sufficient children sorted the children’s books, parents helped sort and shelve the vast amount of adult books that are regularly donated to The Book Cycle. Even our very own Maura Joyce joined in the fun! Afterward, everyone walked a few blocks over to Popston for gourmet popsicles and playtime.

Thanks to the connections of Post Oak parent and physician Dr. Dina Ahmad—this year’s books will be put to good use at the UT Pediatric Oncology waiting room. And a big thanks to Post Oak parent and Chief Book Nerd of The Book Cycle, Sara Loperena, for providing such a great opportunity for our kids to help other children in the community.
