En mi término M yo fui a Costa Rica con Innoceana. Con Innoceana nosotros fuimos a la comunidad Boruca, al Laboratorio de Coral de Costa Rica, a un tour de manglares, y mucho más. Mi favorita experiencia fue el Laboratorio de Coral de Costa Rica. Aquí nosotros aprendimos como el coral se reproduce. Ellos usan fragmentos de coral para reparar los arrecifes. El trabajo de este Laboratorio es muy importante porque los arrecifes se están muriendo muy rápido. Por ejemplo, en 2019 hubo un evento muy grande, El Niño, esto causó que el 90% de los corales en la Isla de Caño se blanquearan masivamente. Cuatro amigos que aman el océano vieron esto, ellos sabían que era necesario cambiar y crearon el Laboratorio de Coral. Este laboratorio es muy inspirador y yo deseo trabajar con ellos. Costa Rica tiene mucha diversidad de pájaros, como la guacamaya roja, el tucán, el halcón, y muchos más. Las personas en Costa Rica aman la observación de pájaros. En mi viaje a Costa Rica, yo aprendí mucho. Mi favorito pájaro es la Guacamaya Roja por sus colores vibrantes. Desafortunadamente, por la ilegal comercialización de estos animales, su población es muy pequeña. Pero con gran trabajo del gobierno y organizaciones para ayudar a proteger la Guacamaya Roja, su población ha mejorado. Esto es un excelente ejemplo de como nosotros podemos ayudar al mundo natural para las futuras generaciones.

During my M-term, I went to Costa Rica with Innoceana. With Innoceana, we went to the Boruca community, the Costa Rica Coral Lab, to a mangrove tour, and much more. My favorite experience was the Costa Rica Coral Lab. Here, we learned how coral reproduces. They use coral fragments to repair the reefs. The work of this lab is very important because the reefs are dying very quickly. For example, in 2019, there was a very large climate event, El Niño, which caused 90 percent of the coral of Caño Island to bleach massively. Four friends who love the ocean saw this, knew that a change was needed, and created the Coral Lab. This lab is very inspiring, and I look forward to working with them. Costa Rica has a wide variety of birds, such as the scarlet macaw, the toucan, the falcon, and many more. People in Costa Rica love birdwatching. On my trip to Costa Rica, I learned a lot. My favorite bird is the scarlet macaw because of its vibrant colors. Unfortunately, due to the illegal trade of these animals, their population is very small. But with great work by the government and organizations to help protect the scarlet macaw, their population has improved. This is an excellent example of how we can help the natural world for future generations.
