Fore the Love of Post Oak

Fore the Love of Post Oak

Golf and Montessori have so much in common. Both emphasize self-discipline, individuality, and the importance of process over outcomes. Past the pedagogy, it’s become a terrific way our community gathers to do big things for Post Oak students.

Every other spring since 2021, Post Oak parents, alums, and friends have driven up Highway 290 for 18 holes of golf and other fun—and the 2025 tournament on April 8 was no exception. It may well go down in history as the most beautiful day for golf there ever was.

Fifteen teams made their way around the delightful course at Houston Oaks Golf Club. Arriving early while mist was still rising off the course’s lakes, players enjoyed conversation and breakfast—made possible thanks to event co-chair, Carlin Putman, and her husband, Damon. For nearly a year, Carlin worked tirelessly with her co-chair, Darryll De Vera, to create a day that was special for all, whether they played golf or not.

There were the standard bits of fun and festivity. Darryll’s foursome won first place, out-swinging every other team. Coming in as “Most Fun” were four from this year’s Post Oak golf team: Baker, Brandon, Claire, and Nate. Big thanks to Christi and Jordan Zweig, who sponsored the team, enabling them to play this year!

A new fan favorite for the 2025 tournament was the Heckle Hole, which is exactly what it sounds like. A few Post Oak moms (Jess Matos, Rachel Morris, Megan Scott, and Meredith Smith) spent the whole day shouting at and engaging with every single golfer who made their way past hole 10. The best “Heckle Handlers” were none other than four Post Oak alums who came back to support the school in a big way: Andreas Cantu, Tyler Holland, Adrian Perez, and Wade Richter. Thanks to Whitney and Marc Walsh for making the alumni team possible! Head of School, Maura Joyce, and parent, Laura De Vera, made their rounds through the course, hooting, hollering, and selling mulligans to everyone who simply needed a second (or third or fourth) swing! Suffice it to say, golfers were happy when they arrived at their respective holes.

Following a slow, relaxing day on the course, players and guests enjoyed lunch and an entertaining award ceremony before heading home. Every person present for the big day could not have been there if Post Oak dad, Marcus Spagnoletti, hadn’t sponsored us at Houston Oaks. Thank you, Marcus, for getting us to Houston Oaks for all three of these tournaments to date!

Post Oak is grateful to everyone who played and participated, especially those whose gifts made the entire day possible. We appreciate you, Holly and Michael Garner, Susanna and Clay Kartye, Mission Construction, PNC Bank, PromoPrint, Sabina and Mani Walia, and Paul and Susan Torn Young.
