What's the Meta? is a short, single-act play, set in present day, and features a conversation between two characters. One of the characters questions their self worth due to the quality of their role. The other character focuses on convincing the opposing character that their role is indeed important in the plot of the production that is about to begin.

Hours before midnight, an aristocrat, Sir Arthur Strangways, on a get-rich-quick scheme, devises a plan to game the stock market by conjuring a spirit. He enlists an alchemist to summon the unpredictable and mischievous spirit of Laughter. Though the alchemist warns of possible dire consequences, Sir Arthur’s greed gets the better of him, and he invokes the spirit in his pursuit of quick riches.
