The Primary Home Environment (PHE) is designed to create a homelike setting and supports the needs of young children.
The program serves children at the Primary level (ages 3 to 6 years). This environment is separate from the regular classrooms and is staffed by trained Montessori teachers and their assistants.
From noon until 3:15, all of the children in attendance are between the ages of 3 and 4½ years old. At 3:15, some of the young children leave the Home Environment to go home with older siblings. At the same time, older Primary children (ages 4½ to 6 years) join the group and may engage in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.
In Primary Home Environment, the approach to the child, the kinds of activities, and the general expectations are consistent with what the children experience in their regular Montessori classrooms.
