Gala art from Keri Nickerson's Lower Elementary Class

Keri Nickerson’s Lower Elementary Class

The layers of the earth recall a book, every page turned, another story of her past and ours. Fossils, rocks, and layers call to the elementary child’s deep desire to understand where they are in this massive timeline of the earth.

Using Longhorn white clay and hand-rolled slabs, the artists used their million-year-old fossils, to make imprints. They then used red iron oxide and other natural dyes to age the newly formed fossils. Placed as to inspire looking deeper and under, the piece is presented in a handmade frame, constructed of rough cedar reclaimed from our chicken coop construction. This piece is layered with meaning for us all.
