OWL

Post Oak implements the Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum at grades 6, 8, and 10.

OWL is comprehensive sexuality education, resting on the understanding that sexuality is a lifelong process beginning at birth and continuing until death. It provides developmentally-appropriate education at every age level, from Kindergarten through older adulthood. OWL covers topics from sexual development, reproductive health, interpersonal relationships, affection, intimacy, body image, and gender roles. Perhaps the most important thing to note is that OWL begins with the assumption that parents and guardians are the primary sexuality educators of their children. Trained OWL facilitators use the program to encourage, nurture, and enhance your role as primary educator.

OWL was developed collaboratively between the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ, two progressive religious movements in the U.S. It is very important to us to emphasize to you that the OWL curriculum has two forms, one purely secular and the other supplemented with religious material. At The Post Oak School, we will be strictly utilizing the secular curriculum. Copies of this curriculum are available upon request.
