It was her mother who first nudged Alex Abel toward education, but it wasn’t until she pursued her own studies and an early career in nursing that our new Middle School director found her way to the Montessori classroom. An avid student, the love for education was also part of Alex’s DNA. Her maternal grandmother taught college-level English in Chicago, while her paternal grandmother’s elementary and middle school students took their seats for class in Puglia, Italy.
Passionate about human growth, Alex completed her degree in Psychology while living in St. Louis. After graduation, her work in oncology nursing soon shifted, however, as the idea of working in education continued to tug at her. A Montessori school tour in 2008 gave her immediate clarity; “The environment was like magic. The students were quiet, happy, and working productively on their own. I knew then that I had to be involved in this work.”
Fast forward to today, Alex has grown her career and love for all things Montessori. She holds both AMI Primary and Elementary diplomas and has experience in the classroom at both of those levels. Before joining Post Oak, she was the director of curriculum and instruction at Goodwater Montessori in Austin, where she led a team of 17 teachers at the primary, elementary, and middle school levels.
Alex brings a breadth and diversity of Montessori experience to Post Oak, as well as her two children, who are students and proud Bearkats.
