Coral Ruiz joins the Houston Montessori Institute as Director of Training with a wealth of experience in AMI Primary instruction and practice. Her work in Montessori education spans the globe. In addition to serving as Director of Training at the Houston Montessori Institute, she currently runs an academic year training course in Puebla, Mexico. She was a faculty member of Trainers at the International Training Center of Montessori Education of China and the Dejemos Huellas Foundation in Ecuador. Coral also collaborated with the VW orphanage Casa del Sol as part of her work with Educateurs sans Frontiéres. She earned her AMI Primary Diploma in Perugia, Italy. Coral has three adult sons and two dogs.

Mirani Smith is Executive Director at the Houston Montessori Institute. Mirani also serves as the Early Childhood Director at The Post Oak School. Mirani earned the AMI Primary diploma in her native Sri Lanka and holds a M.Ed. from Loyola University in Maryland. She has taught in Montessori schools since 1978 and joined The Post Oak School in 1992 as a Primary guide. Outside of her professional work, Mirani enjoys raising butterflies and spending time with her grandchildren.

Miriam Winton was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She received her B.A. in education from the University of Florida, and earned her M.Ed. from Florida International University. Miriam began her teaching career in public schools and was first introduced to Montessori education when she came to Post Oak as a substitute teacher in 1997. Miriam worked as an assistant at the Primary level for two years while taking her Montessori teacher’s training and received her AMI Primary diploma in August 2000. Miriam was a Primary teacher for 16 years and also directed Post Oak's summer program since 2003. In 2016, she began her new role as auxiliary programs director. Miriam enjoys traveling, cooking, and reading about nutrition and health in her free time. She is also an enthusiastic Houston Dynamo soccer fan.

Jenna Pel serves as the Office Assistant at HMI. She works in recruitment, handles inquiries, and manages the Institute’s trainee database. Jenna is the Elementary After Care Specialist at Post Oak and is committed to providing the opportunity for AMI teacher training in the Houston region.
