The Post Oak Parent Association (POPA)

Jennifer Chavis & Nicole Pedersen
2018–2019 POPA Chairs

The Post Oak School has an extremely talented and involved parent body. Parent volunteer activities are coordinated through the Post Oak Parents Association: POPA. The school depends on the support of these parent volunteers throughout the year. When you donate your time and talents to assist the school, you make a valuable contribution to the children and also get the opportunity to connect with other parents. Along with having a great deal of fun, POPA volunteers help to build a community spirit and give a tremendous boost to our faculty and staff.

Spirit Wear

Visit the Spirit Wear web page for information about clothing embroidered with the Post Oak and Bearkats logos.

Volunteer Possibilities

You can volunteer during the year in a variety of ways:

  • Sign up to be part of the Done-in-a-Day team, which works on a variety of small projects throughout the year.
  • Lend a hand to staff and students for field trips, special events, plays, and other class projects.
  • Help with parent education, including planning programs, volunteering, and participating at events.
  • Work in the library, art room, or school office.
  • Assist with fundraising projects.
  • Participate in beautification projects around the school.
  • Introduce elements of your cultural heritage to your child's class (contact the teacher to discuss your ideas).
  • Serve as a room parent to provide direct support to the classroom teacher
  • Volunteer as a class captain for the Post Oak Fund Campaign

As you can see, there is ample opportunity to become involved. As a parent at The Post Oak School, you are already a member of POPA. Please volunteer when and how you can. Sign up using our online form, or for more information, contact the POPA chairs, Room Parents (listed below), or teacher.

POPA Helping High School Students

POPA also has a new way to volunteer, and it only takes a minute. We're creating two directories to support our High School students. The information will be kept by the High School college counselor and faculty.

  • The first will list the colleges and universities attended by parents or guardians so that students interested in attending those schools can reach out with questions.
  • The second will list parents and guardians who could accommodate a High School intern from Post Oak at their place of business.
Here's the easy form to fill out. We encourage the entire community to take part in this initiative. Having the opportunity to speak with an alum of a potential college or university or gain experience in an interesting industry can make a big difference in the life of a Post Oak student. —POPA Chairs Nicole Pedersen and Jennifer Chavis

Just by being a Post Oak parent, you are already a POPA member! This event is a wonderful way to get acquainted with and build camaraderie among your fellow POPA members.
