The Post Oak School has an extremely talented and involved parent body. Parent volunteer activities are coordinated through the Post Oak Parents Association: POPA. The school depends on the support of these parent volunteers throughout the year. When you donate your time and talents to assist the school, you make a valuable contribution to the children and also get the opportunity to connect with other parents. Along with having a great deal of fun, POPA volunteers help to build a community spirit and give a tremendous boost to our faculty and staff.

Volunteer Possibilities

You can volunteer during the year in a variety of ways:

  • Sign up to be part of the Done-in-a-Day team, which works on a variety of small projects throughout the year.
  • Lend a hand to staff and students for field trips, special events, plays, and other class projects.
  • Help with parent education, including planning programs, volunteering, and participating at events.
  • Work in the library, art room, or school office.
  • Assist with fundraising projects.
  • Participate in beautification projects around the school.
  • Introduce elements of your cultural heritage to your child's class (contact the teacher to discuss your ideas).
  • Serve as a room parent to provide direct support to the classroom teacher
  • Volunteer as a class captain for the Post Oak Fund Campaign

POPA Events & Activities

New Parent Welcome Coffee

Friday, September 1, 2017, 8:45 a.m. at the Bissonnet Campus in the gym

All new YCC, Primary, and Elementary parents are invited to gather in the Post Oak gym for a light breakfast and coffee. This is a great opportunity to meet Post Oak staff, room parents, and key volunteers, as well as hear the experiences of other Post Oak parents.


Dads' Club Kick-Off Event

Annual POPA Dinner

This year's POPA dinner will be held at Rice University's Cohen House Faculty Club. We hope you will join us in celebrating the new school year as we welcome the parent body back to Post Oak. Just by being a Post Oak parent, you are already a POPA member! This event is a wonderful way to get acquainted with and build camaraderie among your fellow POPA members. This is not a fundraiser: ticket price covers the cost of the event, and underwriting pays for faculty attendance. Visit the POPA Dinner page for information and to RSVP.


POPA Coffee / Work Days

Volunteer Appreciation Event is in May (watch The Post for details)

These volunteer gatherings, held each month in the Bissonnet Campus Common Room after drop-off at 8:45 a.m., enable parents to socialize while helping prepare classroom materials and do other work in support of the teachers. Come by whenever you can. Coffee and good company provided. (Begins in October)


Family Fun Day

Family Fun Day is an annual fall celebration for the whole family. Bring a picnic and enjoy classic games, crafts, inflatables, and activities galore. Grandparents' Days

Monday and Tuesday, November 20 & 21, 2017, 9:00–11:00 a.m.

There is no easier way to explain our school to our beloved grandparents than by showing them. Invite your child's grandparents to hear about the Montessori philosophy and to observe or visit their grandchild's classroom.


Dads' Club Poker Night

This dads-only social event raises funds to cover the cost of the spring Family Movie Night event. Bring your poker face and be ready for a fun night out!
